What I'm currently reading - Mosby
Currently, I’m reading “Mosby’s Rangers” by Jeffry D. Wert. John Singleton Mosby, a Virginian who had enough SENSE to fight for the Confederates (as opposed to that turncoat, George Thomas), led a group of rangers, irregulars or guerillas (called all these and no doubt much more) in the Civil War. Mosby, now there’s a hero. Ya just gotta love a man that snookered the Yankees over and over and over.
Robert finished his book about George Thomas, the turncoat, and passed it on to me to read. It’s lying on my nightstand. I’m not sure yet if I’ll ever work up the courage to actually read it. Pretty sure it will make my Southern blood boil. “Rock” of Chickamauga? More like rocks in his head……… The NERVE of the man! A Southerner by birth who fought for the d*** Yankees! Is it any wonder that his family hung his portrait FACING the wall?!?! I think I’ll get a pic of him just so I can hang it backwards on my wall!
Maybe I shouldn’t be so annoyed by Thomas. After all, we had McClellan fighting for the Confederacy! Ha! Guess that was a fair trade. Yes, I know McClellan wore a Federal uniform, but you have to admit, he did more to help the South than to hurt it.
Want a Confederate-heart warming story? http://www.mosbysrangers.com/rangers/fairfax.htm. This is the account of Mosby’s kidnapping of Brigadier General Edwin Stoughton from his very own bed. Poor Stoughton, when Mosby came into his bedroom and pulled the covers off Stoughton, the general didn’t stir. So Mosby even got to spank the general on the tush. Ha! Now, there’s a good story!
What my dear Yankee-born husband doesn’t seem to understand is that I’d enjoy studying the Civil War a whole big ‘ol lot more if we’d actually WON the thing. Yes, there is that tug of the heart strings every time the Glorious Greys fall. I was thumbing through a book titled“A Civil War Treasury” when I saw THE quote. It leaped off the page at me. Mac Hyman had found the words to express what I'd been feeling. (Is this the same Mac Hyman who wrote “No Time for Sergeants?”) I feel such a kinship to the man. His words were taken straight from my delicate little Southern Belle heart: “Every time I read a book about that war, I have the far-off hope that maybe this time, just this one time, we will win it.“ Yes, Mr. Hyman, I know how you feel.
Here’s a couple of nice links regarding Mosby.

You know, you could just take a blank piece of paper and turn it against the wall and tell people it's a pic of Gen. Thomas.
As to Mosby, he couldn't have been too clever, after all he fought for the LOOSING side!
Morning Update --- I gotta get a new sofa. Old one is too lumpy for a good nights sleep.
